The Gingerbread Man
A long time ago there was an old man and an old woman and a little boy.
One day the old woman made a Gingerbread Man. He had eyes and a nose and hair and clothes. She put him in the oven to bake and went into the garden.
The little boy watched the oven.
Suddenly the oven door burst open and out jumped the Gingerbread Man.
The Gingerbread Man ran to the door and down the steps. He ran as fast as he could down the road.
The little boy ran after the Gingerbread Man to try and catch him.
The old woman and old man ran after him too. They ran and ran but they couldn’t catch up with the Gingerbread Man. He was too fast.
On ran the Gingerbread Man until he came to two hungry men. ‘Where are you going, Gingerbread Man?’ they called.
“I’m running away from an old man, an old woman and a little boy,” the Gingerbread Man
replied. “I can run faster than them and I can run faster than you too!”
“Oh, no you can’t,” the two hungry men replied, and they ran after the Gingerbread Man. They ran and ran but they couldn’t catch up with the Gingerbread Man. He was too fast.
On ran the Gingerbread Man until he came to a big brown bear. “Where are you going, Gingerbread Man?” the brown bear growled.
“I’m running away from an old man, an old woman, a little boy and two hungry men,” the Gingerbread Man replied. “I can run faster than them and I can run faster than you too!”
“Oh no, you can’t,” growled the big brown bear and he ran after the Gingerbread Man. He ran and ran but he couldn’t catch up with the Gingerbread Man. He was too fast.
“ Both my classroom assistant and I use silent signs for registration, instruction,
prayers and songs. We're using signing more and more.”
Signs for Success teachers
You can learn the coloured signs from the Signing Fun DVD in order to tell the story.
Children love it. Just learn five signs for the first time you tell the story. Then
learn five more for the next time you tell the story. Encourage children to join
in making the signs and saying the words.
