Headteachers show the lead by supporting staff and making managerial decisions to do so, but it is teachers who practise Signs for Success methodology because they have the responsibility for literacy and the consistant daily contact with the children. Signing involves effort at the beginning but only at the beginning. Teachers can input a little or input a lot – both will make a difference. Once teachers have experience of using signs in the classroom, they continue throughout their careers.

Signs for Success:

  • helps teachers have a calmer classroom with co-operative children who are keen to learn.
  • assists teachers so that they can be more productive.
  • produces results in all children.
  • freshens the teaching style.
  • raises expectations of children.
  • provides the opportunity for personal and career development.
  • gives teaching many more layers of meaning.
